The Buchan and District Community Plan 2011 to 2016 is a condensed document that was developed during 2008/09. It is easy to read and a quick reference to what was developed in partnership with the East Gippsland Shire Council as part of the Our Place, Our Plan, Our Future project.
The plan also has ACTION PLAN attachments with details on our identified areas of need, strategies, who will be involved and what benefit this will be to the community.
These are presented under the following categories:
Cohesive Communities with a strong sense of identity involved in the development and implementation of a shared vision: Active, Healthy, Safe: Diverse and Connected.
Services and facilities that support community diversity and connectivity and promote quality lifestyles
Communities equipped for sustainable living
A sustainable, healthy and diverse natural environment
A built environment that is adequately maintained and is sensitive to the regions natural attributes
Community Living: Natural Environment: Built Environment
A vibrant and dynamic economic environment in which to do business
Infrastructure and information systems that support diverse economic and social development in the region
Economic Environment: Development
Financial Security: Strong leadership and advocacy: Open and Accountable
A final community workshop was held with Neil Smith from the Centre of Rural Communities to present the concept and development of a Community Planning Group. This was held at the Recreation Pavilion on Tuesday 7th July. 2011.
From this meeting, the planning group was developed and meetings were held bi-monthly to further the actions within the 2011 to 2016 Community Plan.
In 2011 the shire appointed a community planning officer to assist the community in completing the community plan.
The original community priorities that were developed by the community in the 2010 consultations were very different from the priorities that we ended up with for this community plan that was developed with East Gippsland Shire.
Some of the Strategies and actions that ended up as the communities priorities that were included in this plan were in distinctive and more ambiguous than what the community had previously identified in its previous planning processes.
The assistance of a dedicated Shire worker supporting the community plan and the achievements that could be made was identified during this process and both the community and the shire community development officer advocated to the Shire that ongoing secretarial support to arrange ongoing meetings and revise the project, continued liaison with the Shire and running an annual event with Shire reps and Councillors would greatly advance projects within the community plan.
