Weather the Storm Kit

Who is the Weather the Storm kit for?

The kit has been prepared to support women to prepare for disasters and emergencies.  With summer approaching, there are many formal and informal community groups and local government organisations  who are pondering how they can better prepare for disaster and make their community safer, stronger and more resilient.  The kit is free and can be used by anyone.

The Weather the Storm kit consists of three manuals.

Part 1 – Manual.  The kit has been designed and set out so it be used by community groups.  It can be used by anyone, however some skills or awareness of group facilitation would be useful.  The kit provides a step-by-step guide to planning and delivering the program and can be adapted to fit all types of communities and the natural disasters they potentially face e.g. cyclones, bush fires, floods etc.  It follows a ‘think and discover, plan, design, deliver and evaluate’ format.  The content of the kit is set out in a manner that is easy to follow e.g. how to set up, what to do as women arrive, how to work through the sessions and what to do at the end of the session.

Part 2 – Tools and Templates.  This section has all the specific information, worksheets and tools needed to design a Weather the Storm program.  It includes sample invitations letters, worksheets, participation certificates, post program surveys etc.

Part 3 – Resources.  This section has the resources which can be printed  and provided as handouts to participants.  It also has  information as to what needs to be considered e.g. emergency kit contents, how to use BOM information services etc.

The manuals can all be found here.

The kit has been produced by The National Rural Women’s Coalition.
