Community Workshop. A fire scenario for Emergency Management Tuesday 29th November 2016 6 to 9 pm
Buchan Recreation Pavilion
Dinner included
This workshop will be led by Forest Fire Management Victoria, together with CFA, Police, EGSC, Red Cross, Bush Nursing, Parks Victoria, Victorian Farmers Federation and DHHS.
Using Phoenix modelling to create a fire emergency scenario in our district, we will map and discuss the progress of a fire event and participants can identify what they would be doing, thinking and feeling.
This workshop is an excellent learning tool for all involved and provides an experiential event that enables people to ask the questions on how we would all manage this event and understand what is happening around us.
For further information take a look at the Airleys Inlet experience which took place in 2013 on You Tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB2DF10pxwM
It is essential for people to RSVP by Friday 25th November to ensure that the simulation can be hypothetically developed and for catering purposes.
In order to make this event the best it can be, it would be great if everyone could complete the community survey that is open until Sunday 30 October. The survey feedback will be used to make sure any interests or concerns you have are addressed (if possible). Please complete the survey by going to:

Miles and Simone (Heartbreaker country and folk music) Sunday 10th July at the Buchan Hall 6.30 pm

They are dear friends and have been for quite some time. Both Actors and musicians by trade, they met during a production of Summer of the 17th Doll and have been collaborating on various projects ever since. Miles is a musician, actor and founding member of internationally renowned band and performance group The Suitcase Royale. Simone is an opera singer, cabaret star and creator of the critically acclaimed cabaret The Lovebirds.
Miles & Simone was born in the summer months of 2012, when they found themselves on many an afternoon drinking gin and singing lonesome duets in the backyard. As the months got colder they left the backyard and began recording the songs in Miles’ spare room studio.
They eventually put a rough mix of the album into the hands of Darren Hanlon when he took a loan of Miles’ wonky old piano. Hanlon liked the songs so much he took them to Portland, Oregon to be mixed by renowned engineer Adam Selzer (She and Him, M. Ward, Jolie Holland) at the famed Type Foundry Studios. As well as that, Darren Hanlon recruited a handful of talented Portland musicians to play on the record.
They released this album independently and the above tours subsequently took place. Since then, they have released another full length album and toured the country in support of it.

Biggest Morning Tea at the Buchan Neighbourhood House Wednesday 25th May 10 am
This year we will be demonstrating making Panir Cheese, and Indian soft cheese that can easily be made at home.
Panir is a fresh cheese common in South Asia, especially in Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi cuisines. It is an unaged, acid-set, non-melting farmer cheese or curd cheese made by curdling heated milk with lemon juice, vinegar, or any other food acids.
Please bring a plate or sweet to share.

Fire Ready Meeting & BBQ Thursday 10th September 2015
For all Buchan & District Residents
6.00pm at the Recreation Pavilion
Community BBQ will be happening @ 6.00pm then meeting to follow with Emergency Services both Local and Regional.
The East Gippsland Resilience Project, last year, saw a group of community minded people gather together with Emergency Services and the EG Shire to support the publication and distribution of the Buchan District LIMP Plan. (Local Incident Management Plan) for our district. Also an A4 Quick reference sheet to be both utilised in times of fires or floods.
Our group has made the decision to strike early before the summer season is upon us and is organising an evening to come together to provide a forum for community and our emergency services both local and regional.
Some suggestions for discussion.
Is your property Fire Ready Prepared? If not what can be done to improve your patch.
Updating Phone Trees with new residents and changes of phone numbers.
Are all the Group Leaders still available if needed for the Phone Trees?
Maps of our district. Maps of burn offs already achieved.
What other areas need to be cleaned up around our district?
Do people need a helping hand to prepare their properties?
Do you need any assistance in working out your Fire Plan for yourself and your property?
Did everyone receive the updated LIMP Plan at the end of last year?
We would love to see as many people at this gathering as possible, and putting this information out early so you can place it in your diary.
Please RSVP Suzanne Davies by 27th August for catering purposes.
